Track #2 from album “Septopus”
Written under a coconut tree on Magnetic Island,NQ. The Barking Owls were whooping it up, and I played along with them, not copying them, though. Then got to thinking about their hunting methods, and the little mammals they track and eat. Then I thought about the human world and the parallels of “who is the hunter and who is the hunted?”
Barking Owl, he comes,
Barking Owl, she comes.
Run through the forest, flee through the jungle,
Hide little mousey, sneak down the gutter,
Peer all around you, look; from the darkness;
Barking owl is here.
Barking Owl, he comes,
Barking Owl, she comes.
High, in the tree-top, still in the moonlight,
Vision remorseless sweeps through the darkness,
Seeking for movement, seek for the quivering;
Barking owl is here.
Barking Owl, he comes,
Barking Owl, she comes.
Hide little rodent, shiver in your burrow,
Don’t go out; danger is invisible,
Stay in your downpipe, Pray for salvation;
Barking owl is here
